Is my contribution tax-deductible?

No. 1863 Leadership is not a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4), and we're not seeking that status. The filing and compliance burden is a real cost, and at our size that money does more good in the work itself. We are privately funded and taxed like any other business — there is no exemption here and unfortunately, no deduction for you. Should that change, we will say so plainly before it does.

Then why give at all?

Your support makes a difference. What you are funding is an argument you believe ought to be made, and made well. 

Does this money go to any candidate or campaign?

We endorse no candidate and we neither support nor oppose ballot measures. We make the case for ideas and leave them to stand or fall on their merits.

Does supporting buy influence over what you publish?

No. We will weigh your argument as carefully as we weigh any other, which is to say seriously. But our independence is the whole of what we have to offer. Were it for sale, there would be nothing here worth supporting.

Will you publish my name?

Never. We don't publish, sell, share, or trade supporter information with anyone.

How do I cancel monthly support?

One click in any receipt, or write to us and we will see to it the same day. There is no call to endure and nothing to talk you out of.

Contributions to 1863 Leadership are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions for federal or state income tax purposes. 1863 Leadership is not a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code, and contributions are not gifts to a charity. 1863 Leadership does not solicit or accept contributions for the purpose of supporting or opposing any candidate for public office or any ballot measure.
