Who we are

1863 Leadership is a sole proprietorship operated by Jason LeVecke, publishing research and commentary upon questions of public policy. We are not a tax-exempt organization, not a membership organization, and not a political committee.

What we collect

When you write to us: your name, your address for reply, and whatever you choose to tell us.

When you contribute: your name and your email address. Payment details — card numbers, bank information — pass directly to our payment processor. We neither receive them nor hold them.

When you visit: ordinary analytics, being browser type, approximate region, pages read, and referring site. This is aggregate, and it is not joined to your identity.

What we do with it

We answer you. We acknowledge and record contributions as the law requires. We observe which pages are read.

That is the whole of it.

What we will not do

We do not sell, rent, trade, or disclose your information to any third party, for any purpose, at any price. We do not make our contributor list available to allied organizations, to campaigns, or to anyone else. We do not publish the names of those who support us. We do not purchase or append data concerning you.

These are not present practices subject to revision. They are commitments.

Those who serve us

A small number of vendors keep the site running: a host, an email provider, a payment processor, an analytics service. Each receives only what its function requires, and none may put it to its own use.

Cookies

The site sets cookies for basic function and aggregate measurement. Disable them if you wish; the site will serve you all the same.

Correspondence

We add no one to any list unbidden. Should you subscribe, every message carries a single-click release, and we honor it at once.

Your rights over your own information

Write to us at [EMAIL]. We will tell you what we hold, correct it, or destroy it. There is no process to endure and no condition attached.

California residents

If you reside in California, you hold the right to know what personal information we have gathered, to require its deletion, and to refuse its sale. We have never sold personal information and will not. Asserting these rights will never alter how we treat you.

Security

We take commercially reasonable measures to protect what we hold. No system is beyond failure, and we will not pretend otherwise. Should a breach ever touch your information, you will hear it from us promptly and directly.

Children

This site is not directed to children under thirteen, and we do not knowingly gather their information.

Amendment

Should this policy change in any material respect, the change will appear here beneath a new effective date, with a plain account of what was altered. It will not be revised in silence.
